Abbott offers numerous diagnostic tests for the monitoring and diagnosis of conditions related to the endocrine glands. These glands, also known as ductless glands, produce an endocrine secretion that enters the bloodstream.
Examples of endocrine glands are the pituitary and the thyroid. Common disorders of the thyroid gland that may require patient testing are often caused by the gland producing too little thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism) or too much hormone (hyperthyroidism).
In testing for thyroid function, two standard blood tests are typically used: T4, which measures the thyroid hormone thyroxine, and TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone or thyrotropin) is secreted from the pituitary gland, and controls how much thyroid hormone the thyroid makes.
